Travelling, cycling, swimming… and a good dose of watermelon – now that’s a good summer! 😀 My summer holiday is over and there’s a new year to enjoy! To start 2016 and to celebrate the joys of summer on Australia’s east coast, here’s a photo story featuring scenes from the past few weeks in a short video (1min 54secs):

Last week a flurry of south-westerly winds gusted up the east Australian coast and made me reach for the nearest cardigan*. Then suddenly, they left. Strong wind warnings were cancelled. Spring warmth spilled onto lawns, heartened jacaranda blooms and brightened cheeks, pale from winter. Springtime riding became very pleasant. It was a sunny morning on Coolangatta beach. The sea was sending small swells around Greenmount headland. Two young girls were learning to surf in the shallows. A slight sweep of the current and undulating sand beneath made it awkward to pick the right place for the peak.
